When I first got cavaliers a friend of mine also bought a cavalier. They had
problems with him biting their son. I agreed to take the dog for a couple of
weeks. After further investigation I found the times he bit the child was always
over food. The baby would start to give his cookie to the dog and then pull it
away. The dogs reaction was to be faster than the child therefore a couple of
times his aim was off and he did bite the child.

One day he took a sandwich away from my daughter and he was very aggressive
about it. I went to see what was going on and he growled at me. And even snapped
at me when I reached for him. So I picked him up by the scruff of the neck and
laid him on his back in my arms. He held the sandwich in his mouth and was
seriously growling at me. I sat in the rocking chair with him put my cheek next
to his cheek and hummed as he growled. When he finally calmed down I took the
sandwich from him. Loved on him, rocked and petted him some more. When he
stopped growling and behaved himself I put him down and gave him back the
sandwich. I then sent him back to the family and told them to not let the child
run around with food in his hand and stop teasing the dog with food and things
should be much better. My suggestion to everyone is to put the dog in a crate
with his food when you are eating dinner that way they do not set under the
table waiting for crumbs. They keep the dog until he finally passed away and
the child grew up.

Good Luck Debbie

Thanks
Cathy
