Hello, Cheryl,
Martins DO eat mesquitoes but I wouldn't count on them for heartworm
protection. Additionally, it is fairly hard to attract Martins.....take
it from me. Years ago I got a pamphlet on how to attract them and put
up a Martin house (which must be on a very tall pole) following all
instructions. My husband thought this a great boondoggle especially as
I kept saying "Marlin" when I meant Martin. (He was a great sailor and
had a vivid imagination). NO Martins ever came. Year after year I
tried to attract them....we lived in an area in which we could put the
house right where it would (supposedly) attract them. HUMPH)
However, the bats are useful for this.
I still would use heartworm meds.
