I want to "second" what Pat Barrington wrote about strep. I have personal
experience with how serious strep is, and the fact that it can have lifelong
consequences. In these cases especially, if strep ever recurs it can be
even more dire. Unfortunately, I know people (not doctors) who refer to any
sore throat as "strep" but do not realize how serious it is AND that it must
be diagnosed via culture (as far as I know - Myra, please correct me if I'm
mistaken). Perhaps the horrific ordeal of Cathy's friend will help avert
something similar for someone else.
Cathy, your friend is in our prayers.

<<< Strep is obviously a bacterium to be taken very seriously (as I'm sure
your
dear friend now realizes). I thought I might take this opportunity to let
our list members know that certain strains of Strep (Streptococcus) are
contagious to people and vice versa. Since this lady is a breeder, (and
praying she is able to go home) it might be a good idea to check on her
dogs to ensure that they too don't carry this bacteria and pass it back to
her again. >>>
