Judy & Listers, Just wanted you to know that my Victorian cottage has original wide plank pine floors without poly. They are a med stain, and any scratching that may occur is easily camoflaged with dirt, etc! I have to tell you you would never know I have dogs at home, except for the kennels and the toys strewn everywhere. I do have Pergo in my entry way, and although I like it, it is already buckling somewhat ( 1 year ) from water from dishes, etc. And, as Roseanne stated, it is slippery when wet. I wish my entry had been done over in the pine.
I use Home Depot Citrus cleaner on the floors, and so far the stain is not lifting or fading. Once a year we use bowling alley wax on them to shine them and protect. The home looks authentic, and charming, and seems to be holding up quite nicely. Hope this helps!
