Hi Glenn,
The AKC requires DNA samples on all stud dogs that are used more than 3
x's in one year or more than 5 x's in a lifetime. They are also doing random
DNA testing on litters if you have one when inspected. This testing is only
being used to determine exact parentage if this ever becomes a question. Some
breeds are now able to test for certain breed related diseases, but mitral
valve disease in not yet among tham.
