I am a list lurker, but this insensitive comment makes me ill and I find myself needing to respond! I don't know how one could say in a rebuttle that "this didn't come out the way I meant it" as I've re-read this post several times and it still comes across the same way: absolute insensitive snobbery. I am a working professional (RN) who just recently went back to the work force part-time as our youngest daughter is now 8 1/2 y.o. I chose to be a 'stay at home Mom' so I could spend quality time with our daughters while they are young--hoping to teach them the true values/manners/behaviors in life that will make them be strong, independent, confident, intelligent, non-judgemental women who can contribute to the world to make it a better place. As a 'stay at home Mom'--I, nor did any of my 'stay at home Mom' friends ever drop thousands on clothes ..or whatever'. I think for you to make such an unfounded general statement as you did is just unbelievable! Yes, our family does have three Cavaliers. Cavaliers are expensive--but our Cavaliers are also valuable members of our family. The next time you think that stay at home Moms do nothing but go shopping for clothes, I'd like to remind you that that in my case (and that of my friends) we do: a ton of volunteer work at school/church/community (and in my case, you can add CMW Rescue work and working on a CMW Obedience Committee to plan upcoming Obedience Trials). We take care of elderly parents' medical needs and appointments. We spend quality time with our kids. We are also Brownie troop leaders, parent chaperones on field trips and are the front-line disciplanarians for our children when they step out of line...because I know snobby/rude children grow up to be snobby/rude adults. The next time the above breeder/author of the copied note speaks to a 'stay at hom Mom' who is inquiring about getting a puppy for the family----and----has the preconcieved notion that this Mom is just bored and ready to drop thousands of dollars on a Cavalier---I hope the breeder asks intelligent questions about placing a puppy. Questions such as, 'Why do you want a Cavalier? How old are your children? Have your children been around dogs before? How much time will you actually be with your dog? How much time will the dog spend in a kennel? Who will be responsible for taking your Cavalier to puppy training/basic obedience classes? If you are a busy family household-attending many soccer practices/games, piano practice, dance classes, etc, what arrangements will you made for your dog? Will your dog travel in the van protected in it's kennel or out freely to be flung about if you are in an accident?? Are you prepared to make special arrangements for your dog when it travels with you and the temps are too high to let a dog in the van alone? PLEASE don't decide to sell your puppy to anyone because they have money to buy it. I've worked in Cavalier Rescue (again: volunteer job) long enough know first hand that families having the $$ to take care of a dog and actually taking good care of a dog is two totally differnt things.
