When the battery wears down, you take the battery out, put it into a recharger--which it comes with--and plug into an outlet. I chose this one simply because it is smaller than the others and easier for me to hold--since I am small and have small hands. However, even with the small one I can only do a couple of dogs before my hand starts cramping up. Other than that I like it.
