Re: Episodic Falling

Dear Winnie Clark:
This is exactly the articles I was talking about regarding Episodic
Falling in a Cavalier.
I think the summary here is very good. There are multiple problems going on
here on
the list and I find it all very helpful to me. As the owner of eight little
Cavaliers, I have
a wide range of personalities and little quirks to observe and each one has
her own
malady though thankfully the majority have almost none.
Regarding the seizure, Episodic Falling, Rear End Lameness, drooling
subjects, my
observations in my little brood are as follows:
1. Rose has Episodic Falling Syndrome and no other abnormalities...being
alert in
warm weather particularly and after a rush around time are important
with her as
is being there and comforting her after an episode.
2. Darjeeling - is nervous around other dogs, especially if they look like
they might
stay awhile and she drools excessively until she stops feeling
threatened. Nice soft
cloths to wipe up the drool are all that is necessary.....that and
attempting to socialize
    her more.
3. Jam Tart - has heart trouble and she is beginning to have some sort of
rear-end
periodic lameness secondary to decreased blood supply to her lower
extremities.
We are keeping a record of her "spells" and if they increase in frequency
or duration
or if any other manifestations of her heart problems occur she will be
seen by the
vet. I know that she has mitral valve leakage, right side heart
enlargement and
bradycardia and all of these together probably are causing her problems.
Her
medications and the fact that she was put on a diet by me and has lost
quite a bit
   of weight has helped her.
When Rose had her first seizure, it was the List that suggested Episodic
Falling -- my
vet had not heard of it and openly admitted that they (there are 3 of them
together) did
not know much about Cavaliers....but they have learned so much and I have
supplied
them with books on Cavaliers (in an attempt to get them happy about helping
me) and
articles supplied by the List, and information and now they are wonderful.
They are
very, very interested in my dogs and help me a great deal. Wonderful
vets...I love 'em.
And the List is wonderful as well, a wealth of information, a generosity
regarding sharing
information, and a friendly forum to present questions and get answers from
all the
different areas of thought on the subject. You all are sooooo nice.
Pam Quisling
