I have a Littmann Classic II. I can hear murmurs with it myself, but not
all that well--although I have been the first one to hear a murmur in a
couple of my own dogs, later verified by the vet and cardiologist. My vet
uses a Pediatric Cardiology stethoscope--I can hear MUCH better on that one
and have even been able to easily hear a *muscial* innocent murmur in a 6
week old puppy. One of these days I will buy that one but it costs about 4
times as much as my Littmann Classic II. I asked my vet about the one that
amplifies the sound and he told me he cannot use that one as well--it
distorts the murmur too much for him. I have no problems hearing grade III
or higher murmurs with my stethoscope, can nearly always hear grade IIs, but
have a harder time with grade Is unless I'm using that Pediatric Cardiology
one.
