Good morning to all,
I want to thank all of you who gave me ideas of ways to get my Kallie to eat. She
began eating again after I started giving her Nutri-stat and Fastrack. She will eat
her AFS meat and sometimes will eat some Canidea. I had a family come by yesterday
who is getting a puppy and the father happened to be a vet. I asked him to check her
and see what he thought. He made a comment that I thought you might find interesting.
He asked if she had milk yet. We checked and her milk has not come in. According to
the vet her milk should come in 24 to 48 hours before she has the babies. He said
this is not always true if it is her second litter which it will be. I also ask how
many babies he thought she might have and his comment was 6 with 3 on each side. She
is big so we shall see.

While, I am here let me introduce myself. I found this wonderful breed back in the
70's when I bought a dog book for my children for Christmas. It was a book that was
printed in England and off course had the English Toy and the Cavalier in it. I read
about both and thought what I read sounded like the perfect pets. My children were
young and involved in lots of activities...no time for adding a dog to the family.
We had a beagle which was the dog my husband I and got shortly after we married.
Through the years I would read the book and wonder if someday I would be able to get a
English Toy or a Cavalier. I couldn't decide which one I wanted to get. I had only
seen the pictures in the book. Well in 1992, my son was married and my daughter out
of high school. I decided it was time for me to start looking for my dream dog. I
talked to an English Toy breeder and began talking to Cavalier people. Sue Ramsey was
one of the first Cavalier people that I talked to. She gave me pointers on looking
for a dog. So my search began. As it turned out the English Toy breeder called with
a little male. He joined our family but I immediately knew I did not want to raise or
breed English Toys. He came to me with numerous health problems. I had hoped to show
him but he had to be neutered within months of my getting him. He was 5 months when
he arrived with me. He had slipping patella's and had to have knee surgery. Let's
just say with this puppy I learned a lot the hard way. My husband teases me that our
$ 2000. dog. He is now 10 years old and rules the house. After my health problems
with Sherlock ( English Toy) I stopped looking for a Cavalier. It would be 4 years
later before I would get my Cavalier. In 1996 Sophie came to live with us. She is
our little princess who loves to sit on her pillow. A year later my Susie would join
us. Susie as some of you will remember was the one I lost after a c-section last
October. I must say that I feel so lucky to have my Cavaliers that bring joy to our
family everyday. I have a wonderful husband who adores the dogs and does everything
to make life easy for me and the dogs. He has even started showing the dogs with me.
I must say that I feel blessed. I am a kindergarten teacher and will be able to
retire after this coming year. I live 2 minutes from my school so I am able to run
home and check on the dogs during the day. Thanks for letting me share. I have
enjoyed this list so much. You have been such a support in difficult times and your
are all such a wonderful resource. I feel like I have just begun and still have so
much to learn.
