Kelly is probably no longer on the list, as the various comments, i.e.
persecution, has probably caused her to resign. If this is the case, what
good did all of this accomplish? The very fact that she posted an
introduction to the list in the first places tells me that she might not
realize that her breeding practices are the norm and accepted by reputable
breeders. It tells me that she might be open to learning and taking
advantage of the collective knowledge on this list to improve her breeding
practices.

I applaud Leanne's post welcoming Kelly and inviting her to learn. I wish
more people had welcomed her. I, too, remember the man that Renee was
talking about. It took quite a while, but he did learn. As she said,
circumstances prevented him from changing his breeding program, and he
turned his dogs over to rescue instead. He also probably had much tougher
skin than Kelly and was willing to stick it out through the insults and stay
on the list and garner the knowledge that he was *not* doing the right
thing! As I remember, it took a lot of posts and a lot of convincing. I do
not wish to discuss him, as he is no longer with us, but Renee brought it up
and he is an excellent example of positive change.

Instead of jumping on the band wagon and bashing someone whose practices we
do not agree with, couldn't our posts start out in a positive way? The
person the comments are directed to would still know we did not agree with
what she did. The new people on the list searching for a puppy would
realize this was not a person we recommended. However, the end result could
be completely different. Rather than having the person quit the list
learning only that the group of people on this list are what she now
probably perceives as mean-spirited, cruel, and unfair, she could stay on
the list and learn from those with more knowledge and experience.

There was a time when I would have felt just as the reporter who wrote the
article in the newspaper, that the way they raised their puppies was just
fine and dandy! Perhaps some of you have the luxury of just "always" having
known the right way to do everything re: dogs. How fortunate for you. I
doubt the majority of us can say the same.

I am sure that many of you will feel like bashing me both publicly and
privately for what I have said, and that's fine. Isn't one of the purposes
of this list education? Why can't we serve as teachers in some
circumstances, and students in others? For me personally, I have learned so
much from these lists. I remember specific people who helped me the most.
With that knowledge, I started researching, and reading and cultivating
people who personally could teach me more, and soaking in as much as I
could. Why do we just immediately assume that this person would not be open
to that? Her website? Her sister? The # of dogs she has? Can't people
grow and learn if given the opportunity? Can't we give them the chance?
Isn't positive energy better than negative energy? I know that for myself,
when I use my energy positively I feel *so* much better than when I am upset
and using negative energy.

Isn't there the slightest possibility that being nice and helpful in this
case is better than being critical and "holier than though"? If it turns
out you were right, and change is not possible, isn't it better to have at
least tried than immediately condemned?
