Hi Myra,

I had a similar situation with a two pup litter. I guess because it was just
the two of them and there was plenty of milk from Mom, they wouldn't eat,
they just wanted to nurse for the rest of their lives (like your little man).
They were getting up in age too, not just 8 weeks like your boy. I had
restricted Mom from the two in the hopes that they would finally get hungry
enough, but no way were they having any part of it. Of course I would then
think they were going to starve to death (I knew that they really wouldn't,
but couldn't help worrying that they would).

I finally had to take Mom completly away and I introduced two puppies from
another litter that were eating solids fine and were younger with them. What
ended up happening, is that the younger pups taught the older pups (brats)
how to eat. I guess because Mom was doing everything for them, they didn't
learn nor did they want to learn what to do.

Your situation is different, since the others in your litter are all eating
fine. You are probably going to have to bite the bullet and let him go
hungry until he gets the idea. Stop letting Mom feed him and stop hand
feeding him. Put him in with his litter-mates and walk away. He will
eventually learn once he gets very hungry enough. I know how hard this is to
do.

Good luck,
