Hi Jackie -- You asked about Chantre. She was one of a litter of 7 born in June of 1971, out of a bitch named K. Cheer Up , who had herself gone BOB at the USA National under Daphne Murray, of Crustadele Cavaliers. From that litter I kept Chantre, Chalumeau, and Chamade; another bitch puppy, Chandelle, went to Ted and Katharin Foster, who did some outstanding obedience with work her.
Chantre was a wonderful bitch -- opinionated, much smarter than me, and charming all at once. She started a show career by beating her brother Chalu for Best Puppy at the 72 National, where he was best puppy dog but she, of course, was best puppy. She did a lot of winning, and became a Canadian Champion, but she was also a wonderful brood and gave us puppies that carry her stamp right through today. She was mum of K. Carioca and K. Cavatina, and of a bitch named K. Song and Dance, sired by K. Couplet. And Song and Dance produced my adored K. Songbird, who lived to nearly 15 , and left us with Song Sparrow and Mockingbird, whelped in 1980. These two boys are behind almost all the Cavaliers I have today. I got out some yearbooks from the early 70's, which have photo's of all these dogs, and it made me think what an enormous amout of pleasure we get from our Cavaliers as we see flashes of long gone dogs showing up in their grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. We often say "doesn't she remind you of..............." and all the memories of those wonderful early dogs come flooding back, and make us realize how much we have to thank them for. Thanks for reminding me of Chantre and bringing so many dogs back to life!
