I'd like to add my $.02 on this also. I had a samoyed Lacey, who constantly barked. I would consistently put my index finger over my mouth and say in a whisper "ssh whisper". And to my amazement I successfully taught her to whisper. She learned that when I said "whisper" she responded with a very quiet voice saying "rah, rah". She eventually replaced all her attention getting barking with "rah, rah". Unfortuneatly, I have not been able to train any of my other dogs to whisper and I have one sammy left (and a couple of Cavalier's too) who really needs to learn it :-(
