Hi Carolyn,
The times i have used pit shots was when there was unproductive labor.
Basically it was given to just try and "help" the labor become more active.
If a shot is given and it does not result in productive labor, then my vet
has always chosen to not let the labor continue and then we did a c-section.
With the Frenchies , unfortunately i new it was always a planned c-section,
but I waited to do it until I was certain that the bitch was REALLY in first
stages of labor. After I learned my lesson from that first nightmare. Years
ago I had a mastiff that we had to c-section after non productive labor and
the use of pit. She had uterine inertia, and we had no choice. My thoughts
are that unless the bitch is getting past her due date to the point(where it
could cause the loss of the pups) or she is showing signs of distress, etc I
just wait for real signs of the birthing process to begin. EX. temp, panting,
nesting , restlessness, and refusal to eat. Sounds like she is taking her
time to make sure all those lil beauties are good and done before letting
them be born. Has your vet made any suggestions?
joy
