Carolyn, My bitch April had seven puppies yesterday and what you are saying sounds so familar. Her temp. kept going up and down hit 98.8 one time but stayed between 99&100.4 most the time. She slep alot and did not eat much,I fed her 4 times a day but she was drinking water well.
She delivered her first puppy at 2:43 in the morning then just stopped. I waited 3hrs. she was not in any stress and the puppies were active includeing the one she had. Figured I better get her to the vet. so I packed up the pup and mom and off we went. The vet. did a blood panel mostley to check her calcium level and found that everything was fine except her sugar level. The vet. said it was dangerously low and she could go into seizures. Put her on a glucose drip to bring her level up and then planed to give her a shot of oxytosen. If her labor didn't start in 2hrs. we would do c-section. Low and behold her labor started just with getting her sugar level up and she had the next two pups in an hour without oxytosen. She had 4 girls and 3 boys. This might be something to have your vet. check before you do a c-section. April and puppies are doing fine, now I just have to make sure her calcium level doesn't drop.
