I have had Aussies for years, then got Cavaliers too. I have never had any
problems with the size difference. I have had problems with individuals who
think they should be alpha bitch. I never thought I would have the problem,
but one memorable disagreement escalated to the serious level. I picked up
the 50# aussie and had to shake off the 17# cavalier who figured now she
could finish this.
Usually I have no problems and my aussie bitch would love to nurse the
cavalier babies. In fact I have switched babies back and forth as need be.
I find babies of the 10-12 week age to be the toothiest regardless of breed.
My 5 month cavalier is out in the dog yard with the 5 year old Aussie and
her 8 month old son. Now the 14 week old aussie pup can only be out
unsupervised with the older cavaliers who will box his ears if he gets
upity.
In the house never a problem but I would not let fresh happy dogs come
thundering through with any breed of pup under foot.

But once pups are of an age and agile enough to keep out of harms way they
all play together. It is quite cute to look out in the dog yard on a cold
winter day and see the aussie bitch snoozing with a cluster of cavaliers
using her as a piece of heated furniture.
