You do need to be careful and it is not something that our hamster didn't
enjoy. He lived long and actually I have found memories of him standing in
the ball and trying to sniff the dogs face. The ball was a very safe place
for him and a way for him to run around the house without danger of being
snacked on. He actually sought out the dogs at times. I must admit they were
very soft when they played with him but I would never have permitted him out
of either his cage or ball with the dogs and the cats around.
