Alida, I feel so badly for your friend. The first time that we have to say good-bye to a beloved companion is the most horrible thing that we can go through as pet owners and as humans. As time goes on and we move on to share our lives with more pets, the pain over our losses never gets any easier as you know, but perhaps we learn to accomodate it better.
This is only the second time that we have lost a Cavalier to heart problems where they have died on their own and I might add alone. There are so many what ifs. What if I had taken her with me, what if I remained at home, what if, what if. Thank goodness she has a friend like you to help her through this. We have the list to share our grief with and the support that it offers. Sometimes our hearts hurt so badly you wonder if you will ever recover. But as my mother once told me when my father died, "God never give us more to deal with then he thinks we are capable of handling." Well, he must think that I have very broad shoulders. I will add your friend in my prayers and hope that she finds some consolation in the memories that she will keep with her forever. As Suze told me yesterday, sudden loss is always the worst. We feel so powerless because there is no warning. I hope that your friend will find it in her heart to share her great love with another pet. I can appreciate that her heart is breaking. I am sure that you have told your friend that her beloved friend was met with great heraldry at the Rainbow Bridge. Saying good-bye is never easy and we have to hope that our friends find us worthy of the unconditional love that they bestow upon us. I am sure that this little dog was very lucky. While the physical presence is gone I believe that their spirits live on. Foxy Lady was only on loan to me, as they all are. Thank you Alida for your kind words over my loss.
