I've trained three Cavaliers in agility, and my observation is that you
cannot compartmentalize Cavaliers that way. Our first agility Cavalier,
Tyler, had a definite problem with the weave poles. I since have found
that Tyler tended to intellectualize agility training and did not suffer
repetition gladly (he tends to intellectualize everything -- if an
agility course calls for running through the same tunnel twice, he will
pause before entering the second time and give me a look as if he thinks
I must be making a mistake since he's been there already). Weaves are
nothing but repetition. I also attribute the problem largely to not
knowing how to train the weave poles very well. I've learned a lot
about agility training, especially the weave poles, since I started
training Tyler six years ago. With different and more effective weave
pole training, the next two Cavaliers have not any "issue" with the
weave poles as Tyler had.

Our second agility Cavalier, Dickens, took many months to master the
teeter. This was because I mis-trained him initially when he went up
one side and slammed the board down on the other side onto a concrete
floor. It spooked him, and his philosophy is that he will not fall for
the same dirty trick twice. So, we had to start over with the teeter,
and it took a very long time.

Our third agility Cavalier still is in training. He benefits from all
of the training and seminars I have participated in over the years, and
he is learning each obstacle in a much more careful and effective way
than the first two dogs did. He has not had a major problem with any
particular obstacle, but since I am gunshy about the teeter, that is the
one we are going the slowest with.
