I feel fortunate to be involved with the Australian Shepherd another unique breed whose original registry chose not to become the AKC parent club. Fortunately, ASCA got "over it" much sooner. I enjoy the opportunities that having two registries offers. The venues are very different. If one chooses, there are more opportunities for more titles. ASCA shows more often have breeder judges with the good and bad that entails. (you want to see politics, go to an ASCA show with breeder judges judging a class full of breeder judges!!!)
I live on the West Coast where the Aussie originated. I will only breed to dual registered dogs. I support both registries. Personally, I think the idea of having two registries is good. However, separating the breed into breeding populations can only be detrimental. There are a lot of shows with high entries. Even before AKC, there was no shortage of shows. I know that is very diff. with Cavaliers. I would not have gotten a Cavalier had they not been an AKC breed. I balance my hobby of dogs with my family, financially, time spent etc. I could not be involved in a breed that took so much time and money to show. If I had a CKCS-USA registered dog I would show at shows close to home. I have a Ravenrush dog, my choice, I would not trade for the world, but that about says it.
