Sodium carbonate is washing soda. It is slightly more alkaline than baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) but isn't any more dangerous. There are many products out there called Oxy Clean or Oxi Clean. They are not all the same and one should always examine the label. I had the spelling wrong. However, the MSDS for Oxiclean say's it's Sodium Carbonate. Also say's "appropriate protective measures to prevent eye and skin irritation are recommended. They recommend goggles, rubber gloves and protective clothing. Causes: Respiratory irritation, burning in mouth, throat and stomach. The esophageal lining may be damaged due to the potential of the product to be corrosive.
