It takes so many dogs being exhibited (of each gender) to constitute a "major" in the AKC ring. If an exhibitor counts the dogs who are entered, they may drive a considerable distance to show their dog on that particular day hoping to win the "major". If people who have entered their dogs don't show up for the show, then they have "broken the major". The number of dogs required differs from geographic area to geographic area and is increased by AKC as the entries increase. In order for a dog to win an AKC championship, he must win at least two "majors" and a total of 15 points. There are 3, 4 and 5 point majors based on the numbers of dogs being exhibited. Myra
