Yes, Sharon,
As you likely do know, it takes two majors as well as 15 points to finish
a champion in AKC. A "major" win is three points or more. The number
of points is determined upon the number of dogs shown and varies from
region to region yearly depending on how many of that breed were shown
in that particular region in the preceding year.
So, if I were counting on a "three point major" in bitches in
Massachusetts, I would need to have a minimum of seven bitches against
which to compete (including my own). The number is fast rising.
It is considered kind to alert people who may be showing in your area if
you need to scratch your dog from showing on a particular day as it may
then "break the major" or take away the possibility of any major win.
