I hope some of you can help me. This is really not Cavalier related, so feel free to answer me privately. There don't seem to be any Persian lists, so I thought some of you might have some good advice.
I am trying to help my sister find a persian kitten. She is not going to be ready until after the first of the year, but I wanted to start getting information now. I have a persian now, and just really love the breed. The first persian I had came from a kitten/puppy mill although I did not realize it. She was never very healthy and died at a young age. The persian I have now came from a backyard breeder, is almost 8 years old and very healthy. I know how to find a persian breeder, and I can look up the questions to ask, etc. My problem is that I really feel like the persians with the real smushed in faces are not healthy. My vets have always told me that there are *so* many health problems with that type of persian, and I have read over and over that the standard should be changed. I don't understand why it isn't. If I go to a "reputable" persian breeder, they will have to have the extreme faces. A backyard breeder's kittens will not have the extreme faces, although I would be taking chances in other ways. It is really a quandary for me as to what to do. Maybe no one can help me, and I will just have to figure this out on my own. If any of you have any experience with Persians, have bred them in the past or know any Persian breeders, please give me your thoughts. Thank you.
