Hi Cindy, The human formulas are A-okay to use. In fact my vet recommends these over the dog formulas because it's easy to find the strength he likes for canines in the human forms and the prices are usually significantly better. The strength I was told to use for a 20 lb Cavalier is Glucosamine500/Chondroitin 400, one daily. I have been giving this to my boy who had patella surgery for four years now with excellent results :) For a German Shepard I am guessing you would give that three times that amount, so three pills. You sound like a WONDERFUL neighbor!
