Judith Atwood quoted: <She said she couldn't afford a Cavalier so ended up getting one of these! .... She says that they breed the Cocker with the Cavalier to produce a "more affordable, heartier dog".>
At the risk of being flamed, it seems to me that if Cavaliers were more affordable, people would be less tempted to buy these "mixes," and it would be less lucrative for pet shops to carry Cavalier puppies. I know it would still happen, but perhaps less often. I really don't understand why Cavaliers are so much more expensive than other breeds. There are other breeds that require lots of health testing, have high vet bills and show expenses. (That seems to be the reason given by many.) The ability to pay a high price for a puppy does not make a person a good owner. *Many* other things go into it, such as willingness to provide good veterinary care for your dog, socialization, love and attention.
