Hi Charlotte,
Freeze branding isn't all that different from the old fashioned iron in
the fire sort, Both produce a burn and scar. It's just one is done with
extreme heat and the other with extreme cold. Not too many people keep a
bottle of liquid nitrogen around the house and anyone foolish enough to try
this on their own could do permanent damage to their dog. If the cold rod is
left on the dog for just a second too long, it can result in permanent
pitting and scarring with no coat ever growing back to cover the scar. I've
often heard it joked about, but I honestly don't know anyone who's ever tried
it. No responsible individual would knowing cause their dog that sort of
pain. Just ask someone who's had skin cancer frozen off their face--once the
anesthesia wears off it hurts.
