hi diane, after explaining all the same reasons carol just gave, i usually tell people that if they want to give it as a xmas gift, to put a picture of the puppy under the tree, along with crate, toys etc. and then pick up the puppy after new years. i also insist on meeting the prosepctive new owner before any decision is definately made. sometimes the person receiving the "gift" has no intention of adding a puppy to their lives. this is one reason i dont have litters at this time of year. saves me the bother of dealing with it. claudia
