Diane I like what Carol and Claudia said. I, too, explain to people why Christmas is not a good time to bring home a puppy and suggest, as does Carol, that instead a crate and toys be given. However, I also believe it is better to tell the recipient of the gift that you will help him/her find and choose the new puppy. I think it is important that the recipient be allowed to make the choice.
