Hi, I love the tri colors and they are what I try to breed the most. If I had my way I would have all tri's. But they will break your heart. You can get perfectly marked tri but bad structure or you can get beautifully moving tri and mismarked. It is very difficult. The latest litter I have now had four tris. One is so lightly marked that she is almost all white. But she has the best head in the litter. The other little girl is very pretty but I think her blaze is going to be very narrow if not closed. The one boy is perfect but he is just now getting on his feet so I am holding my breath that he will be able to walk perfectly when he gets a little older.
I like a tri with a nice size blaze with a big white collar and then black on the body. OF course you have to have tan under the tail. And sometimes it is not there. Then they seem to have a much harder coat to groom. Most of my tris coats are wavy and very long it is so hard to get to looking great and takes a lot more work. I remember with my first tri, I saw tan under the front leg. I thought this was a fault. I had never seen it before. However I found out that if black covers the front legs they are supposed to have some tan there. Then the last problem I have found is ticking. Some tris are perfect at birth and for many months, then all of a sudden they start ticking all over. Sometimes as late as 9 months. I purchased a lightly marked girl and that was one of my biggest fears was that she would tick out. She is now ten months and not one freckle on her body. I have found that if they do not get any freckles on their stomach at an early age, they are less likely to have ticking. However I don't know if this holds true for everyone. Maybe someone out there with more knowledge than I can let us know their experience. But despite all of that, give me a tri any time. They are my favorite.
