What could be useful:
- dynamic library libclamav.dll

for this you'd need my latest cygwin patches to fix libtool.

What is bad with libtool in clamav ? Could You tell me more ?
I'm not an expert in using libtool.
Could it be done for example like this :

dllwrap --dllname libclamav.dll --def libclamav.def *.o
where libclamav.def contains exported functions ?

This is not using libtool. You can always doing it by hand, which might be easier.
To use a newer libtool for windows you should download the cygwin clamav src package and see the patch. I also posted it here.

- add DNS support to freshclam
- add to clamscan external unpackers support
- maybe freshclam.dll

dll? better as service with com interface to CTaskScheduler.

Dll is better, becouse could be used in service and other programs.I don't like com objects (but this is my personal opinion) due to bloat code and difficult to maintain compability with older Windows.

but how do you add your times to the windows scheduler then?
via cmdline "start at ..." as the postgresql folks? The other possibilty is only via COM. Nothing problematic though.
Adding the service code is more work, but for all of these exist snippets (I have no url)

freshclam,clamscan,sigtool were tested and function properly under Windows XP Home.

Current limitations/bugs:
Windows 95/98 SE:
- there is crash with freshclam.exe after downloading main.cvd
- clamscan cannot scan root directory (didn't see sub-folders here) - this is really strange

I know why and how to workaround (as lately discussed at the cygwin list), but I had no time for a patch yet.

http://article.gmane.org/gmane.os.cygwin/56059

clamscan wrongly adds another / to the front.
$ clamscan -v //
///.bash_history: Access denied.
Scanning ///.rnd
///.rnd: OK
Scanning ///curl-la.patch
...
But what about clamscan -v c: ?

Sorry. I have no "C:" :)

Anyway, it is NOT related to Cygwin simply becouse I don't use Cygwin so no dependiences with Cygwin are in MinGW port.In fact the only dependiences are MSVC runtime (msvcrt.dll) and Winsock (winsock.dll).

Could these problems related to old M$ VC++ runtime (msvcrt.dll) ?

no. it's a clamscan bug.

All Windows:
- due to no fork() support under Windows scanning is sequential which slowdown operations like extracting from archives (this is also one of reasons why I didn't add external packers yet)

use MapViewOfFile.

Hmm...How it can be alternate to fork() ? I see that it can speed a little process but I don't understand relation here ?

not directly. but fork is not the real problem. to limit unneccessary disk access and fd passing is.

This could be good start for porting clamd and creating some good programs which I'd like to see like :
- POP3/SMTP proxy application with ClamAV support
- real time monitor

If You are interested in informations or patches ,please email me privately.
Anyway ,I really appreciate if somebody could help me fix problems with Windows 98 SE becouse I don't have this OS.

http://www.clamwin.com/ ?

Does sources from this page different that CVS ClamAV using C_CYGWIN definition?

He added a python wxWindows GUI, which is of interest to windows folks. But nothing really interesting yet: no on-access scanning yet.

Anyway I'd like to not use Cygwin.This is why I started pure windows port.Later it could be easly compiled under MSVC compiler, currently Mingw + MSys is used.
I know that without Cygwin there are many problems with clamd,clamav-milter and these should be probably rewrited to use WinAPI but the first choice was to port core (libclamv,clamscan,freshclam,sigtool) and this is almost done ;-)

clamav-milter is of no interest to windows folks since they don't use sendmail. sendmail is broken anyway.

With libclamav.dll available anybody could write usefull (GPL license) email proxy to use with Windows email clients (even using Delphi or other RAD), and this could lead to more interest in Clamav.

With cygclamav.dll and cygwin1.dll anybody can already write usefull (GPL licensed) email proxy to use with Windows email clients (even using Delphi or other RAD), and this could lead to more interest in Clamav.
