Thank you for your response. It turned out I was being impatient. I had
downloaded recent virus definitions with freshclam, but clamd hadn't
selfchecked the virus database. After 3600 seconds, it detected the
database modification and caught Worm.SomeFool.P correctly.

Reload clamd after running freshclam.
