Hi Im trying to upgrade clamav from clamav-es-0.80-es02 to clamav-0.84rc1-1

Why are you running rc1? The release is out.

but I get

failed dependencies: clamav-libs = 0.84rc1-1 is needed by clamav-0.84rc1-1

Yes, you need to upgrade clamav and clamav-libs at the same time. Just put both packages on the same line.

libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.3) is needed by clamav-0.84rc1-1
libpthread.so.0(GLIBC2.3.2) is needed by clamav-0.84rc1-1

Sounds like you need to grab the source package and recompile for your
platform.

zlib >= 1.2.2 is needed by clamav-0.84rc1-1

Right. If you have an old zlib version the effects are unpredictable and maliciously formatted zip files can either pass undetected or cause other adverse results.

if I use --nodeps then I get a lot of file conflicts and rpm -e clamav... comes back with
error: removing these packages would break dependencies
clamav-es >= is needed by e-smith-antivirus-6.0.4-07dc

Sounds like the e-smith antivirus folks hacked up clamav rather than their own system. Best talk to them.

Thanks for the reply, I have followed the how to at

http://www.pagefault.org/howto/e-smith-antivirus.shtml

and everything went ok but how can I check to see if the version has been upgraded?
