Hi Stephen,

thanks for prompt reply - 

correction, i was testing virusevent with clamdscan,
not clamd.
clamd daemon is running happily via startup init
script. i think it is running as root - the clamdscan
test from terminal does run correctly ie. it scans the
/root dir and finds eicar virus.....

the documentation you refer to is very basic, are you
a  debian user?
