You know the old saying:
light a man a fire, you keep him warm for one night.
light a man on fire, you keep him warm for life.

That being said, I really didn't think there was anything one either
side to make anyone unhappy. DP has always been a little terse in his
replies, but if you can look past a little brusqueness, he's usually
fairly helpful. From a disinterested point of view, it looked to me
like no one was especially rude, but it was taken that way anyway. That
may mean there's a problem on the side of the person offering advice,
but it might also (*gasp*) mean there's a problem on the side of the
person asking for advice.

I'm not actually sure where the communication problem happened in this
thread, but I'm also of the opinion that it doesn't much matter. The OP
asked for advice, and was given several kinds of advice. If they want
to act on any of the advice, or research the problem more carefully, or
just decide to hate the people who gave them advice is up to them.
We're all grown ups here. Asking me (and when you ask the list, you ask
me as a member of the list) to be extra nice to some class of users is
frankly insulting. I try to treat everyone as though they are generally
clueful, but have perhaps missed something today. I find that much less
frustrating for all involved.
