Hello folks,

Since ClamAV does not offer real-time protection, would there be a problem
with having both NOD32 and ClamAV installed on a WindowsXP box which is
being used as a Web and mail server?

I ask because I already have ClamAV installed and it works beautifully with
my mail server and I have a couple of scripts that use it as well. But I
also need real-time protection and I would like to be able to schedule scans
for certain folders. The problem with NOD32 is, the command line scanner
does not work with most mail servers unless you purchase a server specific
version for which there is none for my server.

I know there would definitely be conflicts if both anti-virus solutions were
real-time scanners, but I thought it worth asking since ClamAV, as far as I
know, is dormant until it is used by a script or command line.

So what's the consensus chaps?

Jeff

IMHO ClamAV is best suited for server-side/scripting use. If you want to
scan an entire drive of a client computer on demand I think ClamWin is a
friendlier choice. Neither, however, offers real-time protection, which I
think is important on a Windows end-user computer. In that case you really
should consider a paid product. My bang-for-your-buck preference here is
AVG. If you're using the computer strictly for non-business/personal use
then they even offer a free version (http://free.grisoft.com) My 2c...
