>From Sun's Hype Machine, regarding the changes in 1.2:

---BEGIN EXCERPT---
Also new on the deployment front: A plug-in virtual machine architecture
which, for the first time, allows IT shops and users alike to update their
Java virtual machine as easily as they update a browser plug-in. Previous
JDK releases required users reinstall a redundant array of Java
technology-based components whenever they wanted to update their virutal
machine. The new pluggable VM architecture will also be used by Sun when it
ships its much-heralded (and long overdue) HotSpot performance optimizing
engine, now slated for delivery in early 1999.
----END EXCERPT----

Does this mean they completely defined the interface between the VM and the
class library, or does it just mean that you can use any JVM that knows
their proprietary interface? I lean toward the latter, but one can hope ...
