Good afternoon to everyone. I have for some time now been thinking that a
free implementation of the Java class libraries should exist in some form
or another, but never knew of the Classpath project. I am really excited
to see this happening.
I looked over much of the code last night and am certainly impressed with
not only the sheer amount of code written but also the quality of the code
as well as its documentation. This is definitly a project to which I'd
love to contribute, but I have a few questions first.
- My university is only teaching Java throughout our CS program now, and I
was told by one teaching assistant that in the future we may all be asked
to sign NDAs from Sun. In the even that this happened and there was
nothing I could do, this would make it so that I would have to
stop work on the Classpath project, correct?
- I browsed through the archives of this mailing list and found somewhat
varying opinions of the importance of implementing Java 1.2, and so I am
curious as to what the stance here is on its immediate importance to the
project.
- This is probably going to make somebody laugh, but in fifteen words
or less :), what is JVMDI?
- Silly question that probably doesn't belong here, but I'll throw it in
anyway;) -- Japhar out of CVS is always telling me that it can't run the
classes I specify: that it cannot find them. i.e. 'japhar MyClass'
produces a ClassNotFoundException even if I'm standing in that
directory... I RTFM'd quite a few times but didn't come up with
anything. Anyway...
Thank you very much for taking your time to answer any of these
questions. I'm going to begin familiarizing myself a lot more with the
current codebase; I hope to add as much as I can to this project.
