We have a similar process for unsupported devices (the iPhones and iPads fall into MAC ALL so they are handled automatically). Just today we had a Barnes & Noble NOOK Color come in which supports WPA Enterprise and essentially got connected to our network. For this case we did have to manually add an filter due to the web browser on it reporting as Safari on Mac 10.5.7 which forces the agent download page instead of our mobile device registration.

All together we have seen the following:

iPhone
iPad
iPod Touche
BlackBerry Devices with WiFi
Android Phones
Android Tablets
B&N Nook Color e-reader

So far we are following the same whitelist practice. There is a way to have the CAM automatically create filters for these types of unsupported devices but the filter it creates does not hold any useful information (the username that was used to log in for example). It would be great if there was a way to automate the creation of these types of device filters since I expect them to continue to rise in demand. It may get to the point where we have more devices on the filter list than logging in through the NAC...?

CES was saying 80 new tablets should be out this year alone. As it stands at this time on our campus, we’re simply whitelisting any students that come in with iPads and iPhones, but we haven’t really seen any other devices. I’m curious to know what everybody else will be doing for tablets, gaming systems, etc.
