Dear Colleagues,
At a side event during COP11 in Montreal titled: "A Strategy for Germany's International and National Climate Policy" the German Federal Environmental Agency (Umweltbundesamt) is pleased to introduce a new publication arguing for amplifying the international climate change efforts post 2012 and a outlining a strategy to implement ambitous climate protection policies and measures in Germany. As Climate Change is making headlines more frequently, international and domestic climate policy need to step up their pace. The German Federal Environment Agency proposes a comprehensive strategy for ambitious german and international climate policies. It advocates a reduction of global greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50% by 2050 to keep on track for the EU 2°C target and outlines measures to reduce emissions in Germany by 80% until 2050 (all compared to 1990 levels). An overview of our Agency's initiative for developing a national adaptation strategy will also be presented.
The event will take place at 1-3 pm on
Wednesday, November 30, in
the EU-Pavillon at COP11 /
COPMOP1.
It will be chaired by Dr. Harry Lehmann, head
of Environmental Strategies' Faculty at the Federal Environmental Agency.
Along with the
presentation of the report there will be guest speakers on
- a 70% reduction
scenario for Japan (Junichi Fujino, NIES),
-
the strategy of France to achieve its long term
target of a 75% reduction of CO2 emissions by 2050 (speaker t.b.c.) and
- on the effect of different scenarios for US involvement on the
necessary emission pathways for other Annex I countries (Malte
Meinshausen, Univ. of Colorado, Boulder).
