The server ticket I linked has a patch that avoids the server initialization if you’re not using it. The original work should have been better factored (I’m to blame on that one), so it’s a bigger change than just conditional load.
The refer one avoids a ton of work, but it’s a small factor in the overall timings for most loading so it doesn’t have a ton of observable impact. I actually got into this investigating some much larger namespace modifications - I think there is still a lot of potential there for several problems so I hope to work on that more in the future.
