Yes a visual interactive repl would be really useful. Perhaps you could have two modes, a traditional repl mode that displays the result of what you send to the repl and an immediate mode that replaces/modifies the last output when you modify the code that generated it. This should make it possible to get some Bret Victor feel when you need it (e.g. change stuff on a canvas or visualize an algorithm as you write it).
Kovas, I am looking forward to see what you have made, I liked the rationale. (here's a slightly related video that I came to think of: http://youtu.be/faJ8N0giqzw where Conan Elliot talks about tangible values (http://www.haskell.org/ haskellwiki/TV)) On 26 mar, 19:52, David Nolen <dnolen.li...@gmail.com> wrote: > BTW, Julia lang is doing some interesting stuff along these lines: > > http://julialang.org/ > > On Mon, Mar 26, 2012 at 1:09 PM, kovas boguta <kovas.bog...@gmail.com>wrote: > > > > > > > > > I've been working on this, and related permutations, for a few months. > > My thoughts on this (from a month ago) are at > > >http://groups.google.com/group/clojure-tools/browse_thread/thread/f0e... > > > along with some commentary by others on related tools. > > > Will try to get something sensible out this week. > > > Would be happy to collaborate with others. > > > On Mon, Mar 26, 2012 at 10:19 AM, David Nolen <dnolen.li...@gmail.com> > > wrote: > > > Martin, > > > > This sounds like a fantastic idea, and as Zack said very Mathematica > > like. > > > We have ClojureScript so building a very powerful cross-platform > > graphical > > > environment is very much in reach.
