Seniority is relative. All you need to be able to teach someone is maybe a year's more experience than them.
If you had the time to dedicate to this idea, some kind of structured "jam" could be useful. At LambdaJam this month, each afternoon we had a puzzle of some kind (spelling correction etc) to work on. Having an instruction sheet and a git repo in advance helps to reduce the amount of time messing around getting started.
