Yes, this concept works.
Just remember to prepare a small FAT32 partition (say 200 MB) and follow 
http://clonezilla.org/clonezilla-live/liveusb.php to put clonezilla live 
and make it bootable. If live helper does not work for you to make it 
bootable, you can try the method under linux.
