Thought you might find this interesting for those of you wearing the linux advocate hats. I found this snazzy distribution called Knoppix. It runs entirely off the CD and includes Kernel 2.4, KDE 3, XMMS, Gimp, OpenOffice, Networking, Printing, Development tools, tonnes of games, etc. In all a very nice demo CD + network client + user machine that doesn't need to be installed at all. It even has some phenomenal hardware detection built in.
I put my Knoppix CD into my laptop (wierd hardware) and it booted into X with sound and all my PCMCIA hardware and brought up my network interface using DHCP. From there I can browse the net / email / play games / etc. It was all very impressive. Just though you may be interested. The website is http://www.knoppix.org. If anyone would like to try it and needs a copy of the CD just let me know and I can bring them to the BBQ or next meeting. Jeff
