The disk usages are confirmed by PartitionMagic. An interesting point:
None of the partitions listed with the "LABEL" in fstab are present in the
df listing. Tomorrow (I'm running out time right now) I'm going to edit
the fstab to replace them with the traditional "/dev/hdx /partition"
format and see what happens.

No way! I've got so much room I get lost in the woods! The Seagate is
new, checks out okay with every drive testing software I can lay my hands
on. The Western Digital was running okay several weeks ago under W98.

Did it twice. Got bored sitting there, watching it play with the disk.

Nope. Out-of-the-box, commercial product complete with registration card
and all the advertising. $29.95 on clearance at Staples about a year ago.
