    Aha! Aren't /boot and / on the 10GB HDD? The one that (probably) is 
not remapped by a boot loader? It sounds like the boot loader is running 
at the same time Linux is, which is a definite no-no. Try replacing the 
boot sector with LILO during the install process, and see what happens.
