Hi What you describe is not rh specific, but rather you may have a hardware configuration bobo. Try and check in the bios setup:
vga palette snooping should be off (strange colors) get a new version of xconfigurator for rh 7.1 , it had some problems and was replaced immediately after release. check that plug and pray os support is off (bios) check that your devices (vga, sound, ide, modem, serial , paralell , etc... are not using the same irq ... ) At this level, (comfort) there is hardly any difference between the big distros (rh, mdk, suse, deban , etc...) the difference could be in the way some questions are adressed or the number of <enter> stokes required to get a standard intallation finished :-) On trouble hardware, never start in graphix (X) mode, that could bring the gene out. Start text mode, then start the graphics mode from their, if it fails, you can still tinker with the configuration. and figure things out. Read /var/log/messages (this is a log file) you are most likly get a log of information about what is going wrong, and it could be as simple as a misdetected mouse. REED THE LOGS :-) if you still feel like in need of help, i will gladly see your box and try to get the penguin playing on it :-) Just ask.
