You mentioned that you wanted an X interface, and scheduling and stuff.

I set up something for a client where I created a Cron job to TAR up
whatever they needed (and then some).

I know tar is ugly to use, but generally, once the job is set up, nobody
really changes it.  Cron lets you be pretty particular with your scheduling,
so it should meet your needs.  It's also available on every distro, so it's
both well known, and well supported.  The X interface is really for doing
restores (generally), and for that, I'd suggest just using Konquerer.  It
will read both .tar and tar.gz files with no problem, browsing them as if
they are normal directories.  Files needing to be restored can be copied and
pasted right out of the archive the same as moving them around anywhere else
in the file system.

As far as other stuff, I remember looking at BRU, which sounds like what
you're after, except that it isn't OSS nor is it Free.  From memory,
